HEAP LEACHING. Heap leaching was introduced in the 1970's as a means to drastically reduce gold recovery costs. This process has literally made many mines by taking low grade geological resources and transforming them to the proven ore category. Ore grades as low as oz Au per ton have been economically processed by heap leaching.
The mine is accessible year round via Nevada State Route 49 (Jungo Road). The mine encompasses approximately 72,000 acres, including both patented and unpatented claims. To maximize productivity through improved minerals processing technology, the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Mines, is investigating particle agglomeration techniques as a means of increasing the percolation rates of leach solutions in heap leaching of clayey goldsilver ores.
A silver heap leach operation at Potosi, Bolivia, showed the same recovery in both heap and agitated leach testwork. The silver ore however leached very slowly and residence time of up to 4 days was needed in an agitated leach plant which would require considerable CAPEX.
